Rent a car to visit Berlin

Berlin is one of the most fascinating and historic cities in Europe. Each year, thousands of people visit Berlin to take in the art and culture of the city, to enjoy the vibrant nightlife or to experience the varied and delicious food and drink on offer. Renting a car is a great way to get around and see the sights in Berlin. You can easily pick up a car from the city's main transport hubs. A rental car makes it simple to get to and from Berlin's airports (Berlin Brandenburg International Airport in Schönefeld and Berlin Tegel Airport), as well as connecting you to Berlin Hauptbahnhof (the main train station) and other important points. You can use your hire car to visit popular tourist centres like the Alexanderplatz or to get to points of scenic interest such as the Brandenburg Tor, Unter den Linden or the Tiergarten. If you want to enjoy a day trip, why not take a spin down the S-Bahn to visit the beautiful Grunewald Forest? A hire car makes it much less effort to access the city's many museums and art galleries, too.

Driving and parking in Berlin

For the most part, driving in Berlin is easy and pleasant. Traffic generally flows very freely and the city has good connections between major transit hubs and attractions. There are no really nasty surprises but drivers should be aware that many of the roads in the city centre are rather on the narrow side. The one-way system can be a little perplexing for the newcomer so be sure to plan your route ahead of time. It's a good idea to use GPS to navigate more easily. Drivers in Berlin can be a little more assertive than you might expect but the number of accidents in the city is comparatively low -- Berlin is a safe, if occasionally frustrating, place to drive. During periods of heavy traffic you should leave plenty of extra time for your journey, just in case things slow down. Parking is plentiful but you may have to accept a parking spot that's a bit further from your destination if you're arriving during peak times, as the car parks closer to popular destinations tend to fill up. This is especially true of major attractions in the city centre. Allow additional time so that you can arrive relaxed and unhurried. Avoid speeding and watch out for Berlin's many cyclists.

Business travel in Berlin

A rental car makes business travel in Berlin inexpensive, fast, convenient. If you're getting in Berlin by air you will either arrive at Tegel airport or Schönefeld. The latter is located on Berlin's eastern outskirts; if you land at Tegel, you will be in Wedding (a district to the west of central Berlin). Tegel is the closest for drivers -- in good traffic, you should be able to drive from the airport to central Berlin in around 30 minutes. You'll normally take the B1 or Saatwinkler Damm route from Tegel, depending upon the traffic and on which is more convenient. It takes roughly forty minutes to drive to central Berlin from Schönefeld. You would usually take the A113 to reach central Berlin. If you're arriving in Berlin by rail, you will be driving from Berlin's Hauptbahnhof station; the quickest route is usually via B2 or B5, which will take under 15 minutes in good traffic. The ease with which you can drive from the airports and main train station make Berlin especially attractive as a venue for business, since it's very easy to access the heart of the city.
